Overview Of: REVIEW: Protek Illasheva’s COUNTER CULTURE Album is Fresh
“Lets start a conversation, questions that we think of but can’t talk about for fear of being labelled and outcast-ed”, that is what Counter Culture set out to do and well before we can talk, we have to define the grounds.
Protek Illasheva drops his new body of work “COUNTER CULTURE”, a 35 minute album of Melody, Rhythm and Poetry, centered at bringing conversations that would juggle minds into reinventing tone
saying you gotta know who are, “Identity”, find yourself and that’s the foundation. Knowing that your walk with God is firstly a walk that is “Personal” and the Church is for perfecting saints. “I Need You” is a cry of surrender for the troubled soul realizing that we need God in our individual walk with or back to God, and “No Hook” is a mix of thoughts finding ones place, letting all hate got and staying with grateful heart.
“Life of God”, kicks of the next section, which now dwells on the position of the Christian, life after the definition, re-framing, now we are in Christ and there’s a change. “I Got Love” is a love definition in a rhythm, this one is one of my favorite and is followed by “Aye“ standing by what you belief, the real life, which extends into “Jesus Is Real” and “In My Life“ the latter which has an irresistible Afro vibe, this one got a real hook and closes of the album.
The album features top rated artists including artists like: Africans Hip-Hop legends, M.I. Abaga, Rooftop Mcs and Vector tha Viper.
Also UK based Songbird, Naffymar, South African Spoken Word Artist/Rapper, Mercy Tschiamo. And some of his amazing colleagues, such as Eli-J, Limoblaze, Chize as well as young rising stars with amazing vocals K3ndrick and Brain.
Amongst Protek Illasheva’s recent works is the “Heaven Indigene” EP which is out on major platforms
“COUNTER CULTURE IS A PARADIGM SHIFT FROM THE NORMAL THOUGHT PROCESS OF THE EVERYDAY PERSON, FOR IN A TIME AND AGE WHERE THE PHRASE “DO IT FOR THE CULTURE” IS A PREVALENT STATEMENT; THE QUESTION TO BE ASKED IS WHAT’S YOUR CULTURE? A CULTURE IS A SET OF VALUES AND PHILOSOPHY THAT GOVERNS A GROUP OF PEOPLE AND MANY WITHOUT KNOWING, HAVE LOST THEIR IDENTITY/SELF/DOGMA TO RELIGION, TRENDS/CLOUT, ALL IN THE QUEST TO BLEND IN.”
