Olusegun Bamgbose, Senior Advocate and Politician

Recently, a chieftain of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), Olusegun Bamgbose asked President Muhammadu Buhari to resign as a result of his failure to address the present national security challenges. Olusegun, who is most likely going to be a presidential aspirant come 2023, said that Buhari’s party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) are equally worried about this situation.

The senior advocate cited cases like the recent abduction of 317 girls from a school in Jangebe, Talata Mafara LGA, Zamfara State. This, for him, proves that the government of President Muhammadu Buhari has no capacity to protect the lives and properties of Nigerians. While talking with newsmen, he lamented that it was totally incomprehensible that such a number of female students could be whisked off without any resistance from security operatives, especially in this age of techological advancement: “This is quite embarrassing, unfortunate and disheartening. Banditry has now become a lucrative crime under Buhari’s administration. This is disgraceful.”

Bamgbose said, “It’s obvious that the bandits may this time around demand up to N10 billion as ransom to secure the release of the 317 schoolgirls. This is just very unfortunate that banditry has almost vandalised the government of Buhari. It has now become a regular occurrence,” wondering why a former General of the Nigeria Army could not control the serial banditry bedeviling the nation.

“Unsubstantiated reports have it that the bandits collected up to two Billion Naira to secure the release of the students abducted from Niger State. This ugly trend is no longer funny. It’s becoming obvious that Buhari is no longer fit to pilot the affairs of this nation.

“I think it’s high time he resigned if he can no longer discharge his primary responsibility of protecting the lives of the citizens.

“President Buhari back in those days asked Goodluck Jonathan to resign if he couldn’t tackle insecurity, now the situation is fast becoming worse. One is happy that APC leaders are equally getting worried that Buhari is becoming helpless,” he continued.
